The state's slots parlor and casinos last month generated a cumulative $93 million in gross gaming revenue, a slight increase over May's totals and enough to produce almost $26.2 million in revenue for the state.

Encore Boston Harbor led the way with a bit more than $60 million in gross gaming revenue for the month of June, about $2 million more than the Everett casino raked in during May, the Gaming Commission reported late last week. A little more than half of Encore's monthly gaming revenue came from its slot machines ($31.47 million), which paid out 91.78 percent of the money put into them last month, slightly below Encore's historical average.

MGM Springfield hauled in about $21.15 million in gaming revenue in June, almost exactly the same as it generated in May. MGM's slots were responsible for nearly $17 million of the monthly revenue total and paid out as winnings 91.16 percent of money inserted, also slightly below the casino's historical average.

Encore's monthly revenue translates into just more than $15 million in taxes and fees for the state, while MGM's monthly gaming revenue means about $5.29 million for the state's coffers. Encore and MGM are each taxed at a rate of 25 percent of gross gaming revenue and the money collected is split into various buckets, like local aid, the Transportation Infrastructure Fund, and an education fund.

The slots parlor at Plainridge Park Casino counted about $11.97 million in revenue in June, the only one of the state's three gaming centers to post a revenue increase from May to June. The Plainville slots parlor's June gaming revenue works out to almost $5.86 million in taxes and fees for the state. Plainridge Park pays a 49 percent tax on its gross gaming revenue, with 82 percent of what is collected earmarked for local aid and the remaining 18 percent allotted to the state's Race Horse Development Fund.

In all, the state can expect just more than $26.16 million in gaming tax revenue and fees from June gambling activity. Since Plainridge opened in June 2015, Massachusetts has collected more than $1.127 billion from casino-style gambling. - Colin A. Young/SHNS
