David R. Whitney - November 5th, 1946 to February 26th, 2024

In loving memory of David R. Whitney, veteran, engineer, fisherman, and the greatest Dad you could wish for, and an even better Grandpa. Dave passed peacefully on February 26th surrounded by his family. Dave spent most of his childhood in Franklin Massachusetts and most of his adult life in Marshfield Massachusetts. Dave graduated from Franklin High School, and then Franklin Institute of Boston in 1967 and next enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1969. Dave was rightly quite proud of his service and being a Marine. After his honorable discharge, Dave went on to continue his work as an Electrical Engineer working on conventional and nuclear power plants around the world.

Dave was predeceased by his wife Ilena and is survived by his two children, Susan Teuten and Steve Whitney and their spouses Chris and Kari. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Josephine and Sarah Teuten, and Keller Whitney. Dave is predeceased by his dear brother Dale and survived by his beloved brothers Dan and Steve. Dave loved traveling to Marathon Key each winter and spent the great majority of his life on his fishing boat, the Bronco 3. An unrivaled fisherman, Dave generously shared his passion for the sea with his family and friends. A longtime member of the Marshfield Yacht Club, “Captain Dave” for many years led the World Famous Bronco 3 Sport Fishing Team to a series of tournament wins. He was a dog lover and fondly talked about his pup, Blue 2.

If you are offshore Marshfield and hear the sound of Jimmy Buffet music carried by the wind, a cry of “Fish On,” or the recitation of the fisherman’s prayer, please think of Dave. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Dave. May your sails remain forever full.

Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate Dave’s life on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.

Please consider donating to Saint Jude, the Wounded Warrior Project, an ALS charity, or the charity of your choice in Dave’s name.
