The Franklin Fire Department has been awarded $594,654 from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. These funds will be used for training and upgrades to both of Franklin’s Fire Station vehicle exhaust capture systems.

Franklin’s was the second largest of the 45 grants awarded to municipalities in Massachusetts, Foxborough being the first, at $680,000..

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders around the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
