Franklin Fire Helps with Chaotic Accident Scene in Plainville

Plainville Acting Chief Robert Skinner reports that the Plainville Fire Department responded to a serious multi-vehicle crash on Route 1 Saturday night.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, Plainville Fire received notification about a crash on Route 1 near Route 495.

Upon arrival, paramedics came upon a five-vehicle crash with several people who were injured.

A total of seven ambulances from the Plainville, North Attleboro, Wrentham, Foxboro, Mansfield and Franklin fire departments, were called to the scene to assist in treating those who were injured and transporting them to area hospitals.

One juvenile child patient with critical injuries was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, later identified as a 10-year-old boy, later died. Three adult patients were taken to the Trauma Center at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with serious injuries. Three additional juvenile children were transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence with injuries. The status of the patients’ injuries is unknown at this time.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene and the Plainville Police Department and Wrentham Police Department also responded to provide assistance.

The State Policei later charged Michael Escolas, 42, in connection with the crash, whichi happened after Escolas allegedly stole a Jeep outside of the Kenny Chesney concert at Gillette. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Wrentham District Court. He is currently being held in custody in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

Police allege Escolas drove southbound on Route 1, where the stolen Jeep slammed into a Nissan Altima at a traffic light near the intersection of Interstate 495.
