George Edward Kornmuller, (photo above) 84, of Medway, died peacefully at home on October 19. He was the husband of the late Eileen C. (Johnson)Kornmuller for 45 years before her death in 2008.
Born in Boston on May 7, 1940, the son of the late Wilhelm and Evelyn (Boussy) Kornmuller, George was raised in Roslindale and had lived in Medway since 1968.
George joined the Navy in the late 1950's and traveled to many seaports around the world aboard the USS Miller (DD-535). He was trained as a 1st Class Machinist and served in both the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
George met his wife, Eileen, while working at Allis Chalmers in Boston. They decided to move from the city to the beautiful, suburban town of Medway to raise their young family. He remained in the same house for 56 years. He worked at various industries over the years, with his final employment at Cognizant, the company started by the Sheehan brothers. He enjoyed his years there and often shared his love of grilling with his fellow co-workers.
He was the brother of the late Bill, Trudy (Koch), Peter and Jack Kornmuller, and is survived by his loving children, Janet E. Sheehan (Timothy) and Douglas E. Kornmuller of Medway.
He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Sarah, David, Jonathan, Paul, Michael and Luke Sheehan. He was a devoted "Grampa" and cherished each of his "Gifts from God" , they truly his pride and joy.
In his younger days, George liked camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, raising poultry, motorcycle riding and fixing anything mechanical. Later in life, he enjoyed vacationing on the coast of Maine with his wife, Eileen, and her family. They always had a wonderful time staying by the ocean. He was truly "Salt of the Earth" and appreciated the beauty of nature.
After becoming a widow, George reconnected with an old high school friend, Ellen Butler, who lost her spouse at the same time. For about 10 years, they enjoyed the companionship of Sunday afternoon television and were "Prayer Partners" together until her passing in 2022. He was grateful for that time. He also loved good conversation with friends and all his sisters-in-law, and with each phone call, one was always met with his signature greeting, "Hello, hello, hello!". One can only imagine that was his entrance into the Pearly Gates.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25th, at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway, at 11:00 am.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice, or his personal favorite, World Vision International.
