The Town Council took another look at the final design for a new town logo Wednesday night, expected to eventually be paired with a new slogan, "First of Many," and some councilors did not like what they saw. To be sure, the formal Town Seal will not change, at least for now, but its derivatives widely used on department signs, vehicles, etc., stood to get the axe if the new design were to be approved.
Councilor Debbie Pellegri thought the new design diluted existing 'branding' that had been in place for decades, lacked any particular distinctiveness, and was a waste of time and money. Councilor Robert Dellorco expressed similar concerns, including the amount of staff time thus far absorbed by the project.
Town Administrator Hellen stressed that the proposed vote was only yes or no, the details and the timeline of implementation could be determined later. However, Pellegri stated, 'once it is approved people will say we need to use it.'
In the end the Town Council approved the design by a majority vote and bid adieu to the town's namesake as a brand image.
