FRANKLIN: Kathryn (Wright) Bennett
Kathryn J. (Wright) Bennett, formerly of Waterford and Lyndonville, Vt., died unexpectedly at her home in Fletcher, N.C. on Dec. 22, 2024 during a period of declining health. She was 74 years old.
Kathy was born at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on May 31, 1950 to Audrie (Powers) Wright and Rolla Wright, Jr. She attended elementary school in Lower Waterford, Vt. and graduated from Franklin (Mass.) High School in 1968. She married Carl B. Bennett in 1969 and their daughter Emily was born in 1974. The Bennett family moved from Massachusetts to New York and lived for several years in Saratoga, where mother and daughter enjoyed activities such as mini golf, watching the thoroughbred horses in training at the world-famous racetrack on foggy summer mornings and exploring the beautiful rose gardens at the Yaddo and other parks around Saratoga.
As a skilled typist and transcriptionist, Kathy spend decades working in health care facilities in Mass., N.C. and also - after her divorce from Carl and her move back to Vermont to care for our aging parents - worked at Danville and Concord Health Centers. Following our father’s death in 2001, Kathy eventually moved back to her beloved western North Carolina; eagerly saying goodbye to the NEK’s normally endless winters and remained there until her death.
Favorite memories included time spent with our families at the beaches in York, Maine; visiting our grandparents at their farms in Waterford during childhood and many happy hours spent with our dozens of cousins, aunts and uncles back then.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents and grandparents; all of her aunts; many uncles and cousins, and her brother-in-law, Douglas L. Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter Emily and Trevor Moores and her grandchildren, Megan and Zachary, all of Ontario, Canada; her sisters E. Lynne Mitchell of Fort Ann, N.Y; Amy and Scott Brill of Sutton, Vt.; her brothers Leonard and Lanette Wright of Danville, Vt. and Lyle and Sheryl Wright of Georgia. She is also survived by her uncles Willard Powers of Waterford, Vt. and Dale Wright of Michigan, plus many nieces and nephews and their families.
Kathy was especially close to two of her nieces: Kyli (Mitchell) Demirjian and Sarah (Wright) Rowe, both of North Carolina. They were and continue to be her very special helpers for which we, her siblings, are extremely grateful.
Per Kathy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. As reading was her lifelong passion, those who wish to do so may make a donation in her memory to your local library, or to the Henderson County Library at the following address: Friends of the HCPL, 301 N. Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC, 28739.
