Millie (Marino) Badalucco, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother (affectionately known as Nonna), passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She lived a remarkable life spanning 105 years.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 15, 1919, to Frank and Pauline (Noto) Marino, Millie was one of ten siblings raised in the city. In 1991, she relocated to Medway, MA to be closer to her only daughter, her grandchildren, and eventually her great-grandchildren.
A devoted homemaker, Millie was renowned for her expert cooking (family and friends miss her homemade pizza, chicken and rice dinner and fried cauliflower). She maintained an active lifestyle and was an avid walker through most of her life; having never learned to drive never stopped Millie, and she could be seen walking all over the NY borough to the grocery store or to visit her many family and friends. She delighted in playing bingo and cards, and found joy in knitting. In October 2023, Millie was honored as Medway's oldest living citizen and received the prestigious Boston Post Cane award, a distinction that brought immense pride to her and her family. Her feisty determination and remarkable strength were an inspiration to all who knew her, lasting until her final days.
Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter M. Badalucco, a World War II veteran who passed away in 1980. Their love story began with their marriage in 1941, but then Peter received his military deployment notice to go overseas during their honeymoon. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned home to a wonderful surprise – Millie had purchased their family home on East 98th Street in Canarsie, Brooklyn.
She was predeceased by her seven siblings: Katie Pandolfino, Nancy Virello, Edward Marino, Mary Cancemi, Salvatore Marino, Frank Marino, and Joseph Marino. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Velardi of Medway; younger brother Franklin D. Marino of Florida; younger sister Pauline Moakley of New York; grandson Andrew Velardi and his wife Nicole of Medway; granddaughter Laura Manchester of Canton and her two sons, James and Michael Manchester; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village Street, Medway.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 17th from 4-7 p.m at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 3 Barber Street, Medway.
