It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Harry Ayotte, of Franklin, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 21, 2025, at the age of 66. Doug was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, known for his warmth, humor, and devotion to his loved ones and family.

Doug was born on January 17, 1959, to Harry and Jacquelyn (Jackie) Ayotte. He grew up in Chelmsford, MA, where he was scholar-athlete of his class and excelled in multiple sports. He was captain of both the football and baseball teams and placed 2nd in the state in wrestling. Doug graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1977, followed by Worcester Academy in 1978. He earned a double Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from Tufts University in 1982.

Doug’s professional journey began at ADP, where he launched an incredibly successful sales career. He continued to build on that success through numerous companies, culminating in his role at Kronos. After retiring, Doug pursued his true passion—owning and operating a used records and bookstore in Great Barrington, MA. He found great joy in meeting people from all walks of life and affectionately named his regulars “starfish,” a symbol of his belief in the value of each person.

Doug's love of sports remained a central part of his life, particularly his passion for baseball. He shared this love with his son, Andrew, by coaching his baseball teams and serving as the Director of Franklin Youth Baseball for several years.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his children, Andrew, Jennifer and her fiancé Matthew Harkins, and Sydney; his brothers, David and wife Patricia, Dean and wife Susan; his sister, Dorothy Sapienza and husband Bob; his parents-in-law, Paul and Helen Doucette, his sister-in-law Eileen Doucette and wife Joyce and his brothers-in-law, John Doucette and wife Kellie, Pete Doucette and wife Kristin, Mike Doucette and wife Rachel. He also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews who brought him immense pride and joy.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Jackie Ayotte.

Doug’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all who have supported them during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Doug’s memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute - Donate Here.

A wake will be held on Friday, January 24, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, Franklin.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin, MA, on Saturday, January 25, at 10:00 AM.

As Irving Berlin once quoted, “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.” Doug’s melody will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
