Former long-time Franklin resident, Shirley Arnold, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love.
Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on May 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Philip Broecker and Lydia Mittelstaedt Broecker. She later married the love of her life, Delwyn G. Arnold, on October 3, 1959, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and cherished memories until his passing in January 17, 2024.
Shirley was the devoted mother of Sandra Anderson, Daniel Arnold, and Susan Arnold-Mirza, and the grandmother of Cole Anderson and Inayah Mirza.
She was known for her warm smile and beautiful blue eyes. She learned to bake as a child, sharing her wonderful cookies with family, friends, and neighbors well into her later years. Her love of cats was passed down through generations, and her passion for music filled many hearts. She sang in the church choir, performed with the Franklin Singers, and enjoyed showtunes.
Shirley extended her kindness to her community through volunteer work, including the Samaritan call line, voting polls, and census efforts. She also served as a coordinator for the Girl Scout cookie program for both of her daughters' troops. Shirley even delighted in dressing as a clown for town parades and occasions. As for her faith, she volunteered as a Stephen Minister at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Beyond the many roles she played, Shirley’s most lasting impact was in the love she gave her family. She had an irreplaceable beauty that radiated through her loving nature and enthusiasm for life. Her warmth and love of pink and red, reflected through her colorful wardrobe. Her love of cats, cardinals, lighthouses, home, and family will continue to live on. Shirley’s love, her joy, and her magic will never fade in all of the hearts she touched.
Viewing was held Friday April 4th 2025 at the Norton Funeral Home 1232 S. Black Horse Pike, Williamstown, NJ at 10:00 AM followed by an 11:00 AM service.
