Massachusetts had 148,000 job openings in March 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.
- The March job openings rate in Massachusetts was 3.8%; nationally, the rate was 4.3%. (Massachusetts was one of three states with a decrease in the job openings rate over the month. See https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/jltst.pdf.)
- In March, Massachusetts had 120,000 hires and 108,000 separations; over the 12 months ending in March, hires averaged 115,000 per month and separations averaged 101,000 per month.
- Among the March separations were 66,000 quits and 32,000 layoffs and discharges.
- The ratio of unemployed persons per job opening in Massachusetts was 1.2 in March. Massachusetts was among the 12 states that had ratios that were higher than the national measure.
