Morning Machete Madness in Medway

According to social media posts and published reports, normally quiet Oakland Street in Medway was transformed into a war zone during the mid-day hours on Friday after police responded to a report of a machete-wielding man apparently threatening motorists.

The MetroLEC SWAT team as well as police from Franklin responded to stop traffic and secure the area after the initial 10:30 am incident, when police found a driver operating in reverse in an attempt to escape the threat.

The man with the machete then ran back to his own house and refused to come out, initially. Social media posts claim this same individual has been known for shouting at motorists and making video recordings of them as they pass.

Boston 25 News quoted Medway Police Chief William Kingsbury as explaining that, "He came out several times, brandished the machete at the officers, and one officer fired less-than-lethal ammunition at him.”

However, after being hit the individual then got up and ran back in his home. It was only after lengthy negotiation that the authorities managed to get the individual to come out and he was then subdued after a brief encounter with police and subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Oakland Street reopened around 2 pm. There do not appear to have been any formal charges filed yet nor has the individual been identified publicly by authorities.
