The Library Journal editors are seeking nominations for the 37th annual Library Journal Librarian of the Year Award, sponsored by Baker & Taylor, to honor a professional librarian for outstanding achievement and accomplishments reflecting the loftiest service goals of the library profession. And on Facebook, Franklin fans of Children's Librarian Caleigh Keating are leading the charge to secure her a winning total of votes. Nominations for Librarian of the Year are sought and welcome from the entire profession as well as from trustees, administrators, officials, colleagues, and library users. Nominating letters should name the candidate and describe in 500 words or less why the nominee is deserving of recognition. Supporting letters and accompanying material will be considered, but the nominating letter itself will be of prime importance. People nominated in previous years are also eligible. The winner will be given an award of $2,500 by Baker & Taylor.

On Sunday August 3, there will be a Jazz Brunch from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Sweet Community House in Attleboro, sponsored by the Attleboro/Norton YMCA. The featured Jazz Tones trio includes Emily Gove on piano and accordion, George Piggott on bass, and Franklin resident Frank Saccoccio, on guitar and ukulele. They will be performing popular standards from the American Songbook and classic jazz. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the door. Sweet Community House is at 95 Peck Street in Attleboro.

Monday (8/4) thru Tuesday (8/5) the contractor will be performing test pit excavations on Rt. 140 in the southbound lane from Burger King to Beaver Street. During this time there will be a rolling lane closure. Please use caution when traveling in this area and follow all posted signs. Starting Wednesday (8/6) thru Friday (8/8) Beaver Street will be closed at the MBTA train tracks during the day between 7am to 4pm. Those needed to access 242 to 290 Beaver Street will be able to use Rt. 140 only. This includes access to Franklin Glass, Panera Fresh Dough Facility and Franklin Recreation. Access to all other locations on Beaver Street, including the Town of Franklin Recycling Center, Beaver Street Recreation Area, and the businesses on Master Drive will be accessed from Grove St. At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with construction of the exterior building structure and internal building component installation.
An El Salvadoran national is facing child rape and child pornography charges after a joint operation led to his arrest, according to Milford police.
A draft of the feasibility analysis final report for the town of Franklin focused on the future of the Franklin Federated Church was submitted to the Town early in June. According to the consultant, Strategy 5, the work has been very well received "and we’re standing by for any additional input."
