LETTER: Callaway-Tripp --"I've Officially Pulled Papers"

To the Editor:

I’ve officially pulled papers to run for Franklin Town Council in the upcoming November 4th election.

For the past two years, I’ve stood up and spoken out—for transparency, fiscal responsibility, and respect for every resident. I was proud to be part of the Vote No coalition that opposed the $6.8 million override, which was rushed forward without giving residents time to ask questions or get answers. I spent hundreds of hours reviewing the budget and shared my findings publicly. I also opposed the more recent $3.8 million override—not just because I couldn’t afford another increase, but because I disagreed with the priorities being set. I believe in funding needs before wants, and I will always advocate for responsible spending.

I’ve called out disrespect when I’ve seen it—whether it’s residents being laughed at, labeled, or dismissed during public meetings. That kind of behavior has no place in our town government. Every resident deserves to be heard and treated with dignity, even in disagreement.

I’ve also spoken out against unchecked development, including the proposed 264-unit apartment complex at 444 East Central Street. I asked the Zoning Board to invoke “Safe Harbor,” wrote letters to the editor, and urged the Town Council to reconsider their votes. I’ve consistently fought for smart growth that protects Franklin’s character and quality of life.

I’m a lifelong Franklin resident. I live in the home I grew up in, where my children were raised, and where my granddaughter is now growing up. I’ve watched Franklin change—and not always for the better. Massive apartment complexes are eroding the charm and identity of our town. I’ve seen residents plead with the Council to reconsider projects, budget cuts, and spending decisions—only to be ignored. We know we won’t win every battle, but why does it feel like we never win at all?

It’s time for a new chapter—one where residents come first, where questions are answered, and where respect is restored. I’m fighting for accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility, and I want to continue that fight as your Town Councilor.

Right now, I’m collecting signatures to secure my spot on the ballot. Once that’s complete, I’ll be asking for your support and your vote—not just for me and my family, but for you and yours.

Franklin is a beautiful town. Let’s bring back what made us Franklin—and stop the decisions that are turning us into something we never asked to become. I will be at the farmers market on on Friday Aug 8th from 12:30 -5 if anyone would like to sign my Nomination Papers. I need your help.

Sincerely,
Jane Callaway-Tripp
Lifelong Franklin Resident
Candidate for Town Council
