Edward Charles MacRae, 69, of Franklin, MA passed away unexpectedly at home on August 9, 2025.

Born in Boston in 1956, Ed was a beloved son to Edward & Delia (Mattozzi) MacRae. He is survived by his wife, Beth (Goodale) MacRae of Franklin; his children, Melanie MacRae of Boston and Kayleigh Boynton, along with her husband Eddie Boynton of Franklin; his cherished grandchildren, Bennett and Calihan Boynton; and his sister, Janet & her husband John Dolan of Scituate and their children John & Allison Dolan, Edward & Kerry Dolan, and Valerie & George Oberndorfer and their children. He is also survived by his aunt Janet Mattozzi of Dedham and many cousins.

Ed was raised in Dedham where he attended Dedham High School and graduated in 1973. He was a talented athlete who played football, hockey, and ran track. After high school, he continued his education at UMass Boston where he stayed active in hockey and intramural sports, keeping his passion for athletics alive. His favorite place, though, was Scituate – where he spent countless summer days on the ocean with his dad and friends, fishing, water skiing, and teaching younger neighbors the art of navigating Scituate’s often challenging waters. He also had a creative side, with a talent for sketching boats and cars, which evolved into a hands-on hobby of car detailing, body work, and pin-striping.

Ed’s professional life was a book with many chapters, each one shaped by his relentless pursuit of learning and his desire to share the wisdom he gained along the way. He embraced a growth mindset, always eager to learn new skills, tackle new tasks, and stay busy. Throughout his long career across various industries, one thing remained constant: Ed was always selling, always building his pipeline. He was still working full-time and had hoped to officially retire next year.

A passionate music lover, Ed especially adored the Beatles, James Taylor, and Rod Stewart. He found joy in sharing meals with family—whether at home, out to dinner, or during holidays, when he was famously in charge of the prosciutto and cheese board. He had a love for fast cars, fast boats, and sunny 70-degree days.

Above all, Ed was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather—affectionately known as “Booboo” to his grandkids. He was also a cherished brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. With an empathetic heart and a generous spirit, Ed was truly one of a kind. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 15 from 4:00–7:00 PM at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA
