Above, Steve Sherlock raises a question about information transparency during the meeting.
The Franklin Police Station Building Committee met again Wednesday evening to discuss replacement of the existing station, which is still younger than almost anyone working at the department but currently deemed inadequate by town leaders.
The meeting started off with approval of a backlog of minutes going back nearly a year.
The main event was a presentation by the Owner’s Project Manager (OPM) Presentation, discussing features that would be included regardless of which site is chosen.
There were few in the audience and relatively few questions. Steve Sherlock, of Franklin Matters, urged the town to make as plain as possible how the site selection criteria has worked or is working so that individuals can understand why decisions are being made
Telephoning in, late in the meeting, Rick Ciccone, a resident of Chestnut Street, expressed frustration with the entire process, particularly the notion of the town seeking to spend $40 million on the project when municipal finances are in disarray and when truly draconian budget cuts are predicted for next year.
"I will never support this project," he said.
In closing, the committee decided to meet next on Monday, Oct. 27.
In the meantime there are plans for potential open house events including: Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025 at 6:00 PM, and Sunday, October 5th, 2025 at 6:00 PM
