Welcome to the Franklin Public Library's second Annual Reading Challenge! For each monthly prompt that you complete and submit on time you will receive a Free Book Coupon that's good at the library's Book Sale. Franklin Public Library VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
We Need You! for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs… better known as VITA and TCE.
Many volunteer roles are available. You can help as a greeter, an interpreter, and many other roles, but most of all, we need tax preparers. Training for certification is provided! ESL & Adult Literacy Program
The Franklin Public Library has started an English as a Second Language (formerly ESOL) and Adult Literacy Program to serve Franklin and its surrounding communities. Volunteers and students do not need to be Franklin residents. If interested, fill out the registration form on the library’s website.
Special Events for Kids
Doggie Tales: Meet the Pups! Monday October 6 th 4:00 PM We are bringing Doggie Tales back! Kiddos who are working on their reading skills will be able to sign up for a time slot to practice reading to a trained therapy dog! Meet the pups and get to know the friendly faces of the trained therapy dogs you will have a chance to read with! No registration required for this event!
Franklin’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Saturday October 11 th 10:30 AM
Treats, games, and music, Oh My! Enjoy a spooky celebration for all ages! Costumes are encouraged!
Interactive in Movie Wednesday October 15 th 1:00 PM
Families! Join us for a special interactive movie screening in our program room! Relax and enjoy a seasonal movie, with popcorn and some fun surprises!
Petite Picassos Monday October 20 th 4:00 PM
Registration Required.
Join Miss Lily and create a step-by-step painting of some silly stacked pumpkins! This paint party is a great fit for children ages 6 through 12! All materials will be provided.

Teen Advisory Board Wednesday October 8 th 5:30 PM
Join us each month for Teen Advisory Board! The Teen Advisory Board is a GREAT opportunity to get involved here at the library! You'll help plan events and programs, create displays and decorate the teen space, and help drive decisions around the kinds of materials we bring to the YA collection, from books and beyond, all while eating snacks and getting volunteer hours! Pixel Pals Graphic Novel Book Club Thursday October 23 rd 4:00 PM
An afternoon book group for graphic novels, manga, anime, cartoons, etc.! We’ll talk new releases, dabble in drawing, and so much more!

Join the Town Health Department for a Health Fair at the Library! Enjoy Local vendors & health
services, Face painting & kids' activities, Health screenings, Raffles, giveaways, and
refreshments!
Drum Circle Thursday October 2 nd 2:00 PM
Enjoy a hand-drumming workshop for all ages! This live event will explore different drumming
styles from across the globe, celebrating the universality of this much-loved instrument.
Mysterious Massachusetts Saturday October 4 th 2:00 PM
Every state has its ghost stories, but no other state has the Dover Demon or the Salem Witch
Trials. From sea-side ghosts, to UFOs over the Berkshires, Massachusetts has a rich history of
paranormal legend, odd events, and strange denizens. In this workshop with Sarah Hodge-
Wetherbe, we have a look at some of the most famous of Massachusetts paranormal history.
Chess Club Saturday October 4 th 2:30 PM
Chess - The Game of Kings has resumed play! All ages and ability levels are welcomed. If you
would like to learn how to play chess, you are welcome as well! Learn an opening, develop
strategic & tactic abilities, improve endgame skills. Sets will be available.
Trunk or Treat Saturday October 18 th 2:00 PM
Families! Dress up and join us in the library parking lot for a safe, little-kid friendly morning of
trick-or-treating in the daylight! The parking lot will be full of decorated trunks and activities!!
In case of rain, we will move indoors!!

It's spooky season and what better way to celebrate than with some of the creepiest and
crawliest critters around! YES! There will be real live bugs and more! Creepy Fun for All Ages!
Fabio Pirozzolo in Concert Saturday October 25 th 3:00 PM
Celebrate the art and culture of Italy with a concert of Italian Folk Music from Fabio Pirozzolo.
Fabio Pirozzolo is an Italian drummer, multi-percussionist and singer currently based in Boston,
Massachusetts. Originally from Terracina, Italy, he started his career as a folk percussionist,
playing Italian frame drums tamburello and tammorra, in one of the most famous folk groups in
his area. This experience gave him the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, playing
concerts and giving lectures on regional Italian frame drum techniques
