Franklin Fire Department was called to a location in Forge Park around 2 pm on Tuesday, July 20 because of an alarm at Tegra Medical, a "contract manufacturer of finished medical devices and complex components including surgical instruments, needles, and implants," according to the company's web site.
The alarm prompted a full evacuation of all staff, accomplished before the arrival of Franklin Fire units.
Fire Department shift supervisor, Captain Tom Konieczny, said the incident turned out to be just an alarm activation, possibly related to recent work conducted on the company's fire sprinkler system. "We go on a fairly good number of these calls but they are necessary," because you never know when it might be a real emergency, he said.
Tegra Medical is headquartered in Franklin, Massachusetts. It also has operations in Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Hernando, Mississippi; Heredia, Costa Rica; Altstätten, Hallau, and Heerbrugg, Switzerland; and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It was formed in 2007.
