“We’re here to show how resilient and powerful we are.” -- Kristi Kirshe

According to the Team USA website and other published reports, Women’s Rugby at the Tokyo Olympics have fallen short on their hopes for a medal win this year. Franklin’s Kriste Kirshe is a member of the team.

The American team had a 17-7 loss to Australia on Saturday putting the team one spot lower than in 2016. However, the team had done well earlier, with its best-ever finish in the World Rugby Sevens Series, finishing second across the six-tournament circuit in 2018-19.

That was followed with its first tournament victory.

Earlier this week, the Team did well in the preliminaries, winning all three games Thursday and Friday by a combined score of 59-33. But then Friday evening Great Britain jumped out to a 21-0 lead. With help from Kirshe, the team scored enough to bring the score up but it was still a 21-12 win for Great Britain. That loss took the team out of the running for any medals. However, on Saturday morning they managed to beat China 33-14.
