Trout stocking begins soon in Massachusetts.

MassWildlife says it  is stocking trout in over 450 lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams in 264 towns across Massachusetts this spring! Trout are fun to catch and make a delicious, healthy meal. Stocking will start in mid-March as ice and water conditions allow.

Ponds and lakes closest to Franklin that are regularly stocked by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. are within roughly 10–25 miles and are commonly stocked during the spring and fall programs. MassWildlife stocks brook, brown, rainbow, and tiger trout.

Here in Franklin, Uncas Pond ,Mine Brook ,Charles River, Miscoe and Dix Brooks are commonly stocked. Other options include:

Hopkinton Reservoir — Hopkinton

Distance: ~12 miles

• Large state-park reservoir
• Boat access available
• Stocked multiple times each spring

Within ~15–20 Miles

Lake Chauncy — Westborough

Distance: ~18 miles

• One of the best-known trout waters in MetroWest
• Shoreline and boat fishing

Turner Reservoir — East Providence

Distance: ~18 miles

• Borderline MA/RI option
• Often stocked by Rhode Island DEM

Stump Pond — Norfolk

Distance: ~8 miles

• Small pond frequently stocked
• Good early-season trout fishing

Within ~20–25 Miles

Whitehall Reservoir — Hopkinton

Distance: ~16 miles

• Deep reservoir with trout stocking
• Quiet fishing area

Mirror Lake — Fitchburg

Distance: ~45 miles (farther but well known)

• Regular MassWildlife stocking
