Road work along Interstate 495 in the Franklin area has been a constant for the season. And it’s far from over. According to Kristen Pennucci, Communications Director for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), the Department will continue conducting overnight  work during the hours of 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. through Friday morning August 13.

The work will impact drivers traveling on I-495 northbound as well as drivers using on and off ramps in some areas of Mansfield, Franklin, and Wrentham through Friday morning August 13.

MassDOT crews will be conducting pavement micro milling and repaving on Interstate 495 northbound and the on-going project will require intermittent ramp closures and detours as follows.

Sunday night, August 8, and Thursday night, August 12: the on-ramp from Route 1A to I-495 northbound in Wrentham is scheduled to be closed with the following detour:

As an alternative, drivers can:

>Take ramp to I-495 southbound
>Take exit 36A to Route 1 northbound
>Take ramp from Route 1 northbound to I-495 northbound
>Stay on I-495 northbound

Monday night, August 9: the on and off-ramps from King Street to I-495 northbound in Franklin are scheduled to be closed with the following detours. The exit 41 on-ramp from I-495 northbound is closed and traffic will be directed on this detour.

    >Take exit 43 (Route 140 Franklin)
    >Take a left onto Route 140
    >Take a left onto I-495 southbound on-ramp
    >Take exit 41 on I-495 southbound

“The scope of this project includes the resurfacing of I-495 in the Towns of Foxborough, Plainville, Wrentham and Franklin,” said Pennucci. She said the total project cost is approximately $6.5 Million and with seasonal shutdowns in the winter, the completion date for the work is scheduled for June of 2023.

She recommended drivers consider using the following options to stay up-to-date on local construction projects:

    >Dial 511 before heading out onto the roadways and select a route to hear real-time conditions.
    >Visit www.mass511.com, a website which provides real-time traffic and incident advisory information, access to traffic cameras, and allows users to subscribe to text and email alerts for traffic conditions.
    >Follow MassDOT on Twitter @MassDOT to receive regular updates on road and traffic conditions.

    > Download MassDOT’s GoTime mobile app and view real-time traffic conditions before setting out on the road.
