The very first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. And here in Franklin, the tradition got its start exactly 25 years ago, according to Ryan Jette, Franklin Director of Recreation, who has been involved for that whole time.
Saturday's annual Earth Day event at Beaver Pond will be on Saturday between nine and noon.
"We are looking for volunteers to come down and help clean up the 41 sites we have across Town," said Jette. "We'll have bagels and coffee in the morning and saplings from the DPW to plant, along with bags and gloves for clean up," he added. There are also kid-friendly sites too for those with young children.
