Lawrence “Larry” Mudrey, 75, of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was the loving husband of the late Susan E. Mudrey, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2021.
Larry was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 15, 1951. He spent much of his life in upstate New York before moving to Franklin, Massachusetts with Susan in 2010 to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
Larry worked at General Electric in Schenectady, New York, for over 35 years. Early in his career, and deeply committed to his community, he also served as a volunteer firefighter with District 6 in Rotterdam, New York.
For nearly 30 years, Larry took tremendous pride in serving as a representative of Santa Claus each Christmas season. Larry felt great joy from his work and treasured the friendships he formed throughout his long career. He brought happiness and wonder to countless children and families, creating joyful memories that will endure for generations. This special role was one of his greatest honors, and he embraced it with warmth, kindness, and a genuine love for the Christmas season.
Above all, Larry was devoted to his family. He was a loving father to his daughter, Sarah K. Eberly, and a proud father-in-law to her husband, Christopher D. Eberly, of Norwood, Massachusetts. His greatest joy was his grandson, Alexander J. Eberly, of whom he was immensely proud. He greatly enjoyed spending time at the ocean, specifically New Hampshire, Maine and Cape Cod which he would frequently visit with his family.
Larry is also survived by sister Anne (Mudrey) Snyder, nieces Danielle (Snyder) Gill and Jessica (Snyder) Nicklaw, brother-in-law Steven Hicks, his wife Christine Hicks, nephew Jonathan Hicks and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents, stepfather, brother and brother-in-law.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud father-in-law and grandfather (Pop). He will always be in our hearts.
A Memorial celebration of his life will be planned for a later date.
