LETTER: A Touching Tribute from a Great Civic Group

To the Editor, 

By chance I drove by the Elks Hall on Pond Street, this past Friday, September 11, 2026. The Elks organization had created a remembrance,  as a token of respect and honor for the many lives lost on that day in 2001.

The small lawn next to the entry into the Elks was covered with American flags, and the flags kept coming, next field,lawn area, then the next field lawn area. It was awesome, it was sad, it was scary, it was poignant, and a depressing reminder of man's inhumanity to man.

All those sensations, but, it was the most generous demonstration found here in the City that calls itself the Town of Franklin. Thank you Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 2136. It was moving, it was thoughtful. It was greatly appreciated. This is the same Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 2136 who for many years took on the responsibility of placing American flags, in the flag holders on Main Street, Frankin whenever there was a parade or there was a funeral for a Veteran.
