FRANKLIN: Robert Russell Arena

Robert R. Arena passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was the devoted and beloved husband of Cheryl Arena; a proud and loving father to Matthew Arena (wife Lais); Beth Baksi (husband Subir) and a doting grandfather to Alexander Baksi and Victoria Arena.

Born in Waltham, MA in 1950, his family relocated to Natick, MA a few years later. Robert was a graduate of Natick High School and Salem State College.

This foundation led to a fulfilling career in the food industry—a path perfectly tailored to his lifelong passion for the culinary arts. A gifted home chef with a refined palate, Robert took immense pride in his craft, always finding joy in sharing exceptional food and warm hospitality with those around him.

He was predeceased by his father, Orazzio (Rus) Arena and his mother, Mary Ann Arena. He is also survived by his sister Louise M. Arena.

Outside of the kitchen, Bob enjoyed playing sports. Candlepin bowling at Fairway Lanes, volleyball with F-Troop, and tennis at the Charles River Tennis club and in recent years, discovered a great fondness for pickleball.

He also possessed a remarkable green thumb, eagerly anticipating the spring each year so he could plant many vibrant flowers that brought color and life to his home.

He always looked forward to Saturday nights playing cards with friends, especially Karen and Charlie who were close friends through his illness.

Above all, Robert's greatest joy was his life with Cheryl. Together, they shared a deep love of travel, mostly on cruises. They held a special place in their hearts for North Conway, New Hampshire, where Robert spent much of his cherished retirement hiking and spending time with close friends and family.

Remembered for his fun-loving spirit, warmth, and generous heart, Robert will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 21, in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10:00

Burial will be private.
