PieZoni’s, a family-owned restaurant chain with locations across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, has grown from a single Massachusetts operation into a regional pizza brand over the past three decades. Its Franklin location opened, auspiciously, on the town's birthday, March 2, in 2017 and since then has become a popular choice for pizza, sandwiches and much else for Dean students and residents alike.
The restaurant is located in the Horace Mann Square building between West Central and Emmons Street.
The company is owned by Victor Martinez and Joe Ferreira and operates under the corporate name PieZoni’s Franchising LLC.
The business traces its origins to 1996, when it began as a casual dining restaurant under the name Pepperoni’s. Its first official restaurant location opened in Raynham, Massachusetts, in 2001.
As the company expanded, its owners sought a more distinctive name that could help establish the growing chain’s identity. In January 2006, the company adopted the PieZoni’s name and began developing a franchise model to support further expansion.
Today, PieZoni’s has more than 20 locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The restaurants are known for their bar-style pizzas, along with a menu that includes sandwiches, salads and other casual dining selections.
The company remains privately held and family operated as it continues to expand its presence in southeastern New England.
Perhaps because it is so well known for take-out food, onne of the best kept secrets of the Franklin location is its cozy dining area overlooking the Dean campus. And, the backside of the building is the location of the Horace Mann Statue profiled yesterday....
