Robert Gerard Blanchette, 71, of Harwich, formerly of Franklin, passed away suddenly at his home on October 5, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Debra A. (Vilensky) Blanchette, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage and a love story that words could never fully capture.
Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on February 15, 1955, Bob was the son of the late Lucien and Noella (Leduc) Blanchette. He grew up in Woonsocket and lived in Franklin for more than 40 years before moving to Harwich four years ago.
Bob was a graduate of William Davies High School and Rhode Island Junior College. He worked as a design engineer for Verizon for many years before retiring, having previously held positions with Smith and Nephew Endoscopy, Acufex, Prime Computer, and GTE Sylvania.
Quiet by nature, Bob had a wonderful sense of humor. His presence was familiar, comforting, and was deeply loved by his family and the many friends who are heartbroken by his passing.
At the heart of Bob’s life was Debbie. He adored his wife beyond words, and the life they built together. Their love was something special, deeply their own, and woven into 45 years of shared memories, everyday moments, and devotion to one another.
Bob cherished the beach, weekend getaways throughout New England and trips to Aruba. He was also an avid New England sports fan and loved all genres of music. He loved his home in Harwich especially in his chair on the back porch, surrounded by the beautiful landscaping and the sounds of nature. He found happiness in gardening, watching birds, fishing, and puttering around the house appreciating the simple pleasures of the life he loved.
Above all, Bob treasured his family. His daughters, Danielle and Renee, will miss him more deeply than words can express. To his grandchildren, he was their beloved Papa and Pepere. Those names held so much love, and his loss leaves an immeasurable space in their lives. The memories they share with him will remain a cherished part of their family forever.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters, Danielle McCarthy and her husband, Matthew, of Franklin, and Renee Blanchette of Waltham; his five cherished grandchildren, Brendan, Tessa, Eddie, Kayleigh, and Elise; his sister-in-law, Diane Blanchette; sister-in-law, Barbara McDonald and her husband Fred; his brother-in-law Mark Vilensky and his wife Stephanie; his brother-in-law, Paul Vilensky; his mother-in-law, Olive Vilensky; and many loving nieces and nephews; He was predeceased by his brother Gerard Blanchette.
Bob’s sudden passing has left his family and friends with a profound sense of loss. He will be remembered with love for his quiet ways, his humor, his devotion to Debbie, and the happiness he found in being with the people he loved most.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the MSPCA-Angell Fund.
