FRANKLIN: Peter Scott Kennedy II

Peter Scott Kennedy II, of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away on October 23, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Peter was born in New York City and would proudly proclaim that to anyone who asked-and many who didn’t. He was fiercely loyal to his hometown and always said that going back was the greatest feeling in the world. He lived everywhere from NYC to Shelter Island and Greenport, and from Connecticut to Vermont, Virginia and Nantucket, until Match.com brought him to the suburbs of southeastern Massachusetts, where he met his wife of 19 years, Beth Kennedy. They clicked immediately and were inseparable from the start, getting unofficially ‘engaged’ just 3 weeks after they met. They were opposites who somehow worked and shared countless adventures and laughs together.

Peter is survived by his wife, Beth (Molla) Kennedy; his sons, Samuel Francis (18) and Emmett Byrne (12). He was predeceased by his mother, Ellen Jane (Byrne) Morgan whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his father, Peter Kennedy; his brother Scott Kennedy, and his wife, Mary Beth of Virginia; his sister, Sherry Thompson, and her husband, Scott of North Carolina; his in-laws Fran & Paula Molla and Barbara & Margie Bello, brother-in-law Paul Molla and his wife, Christine, and his beloved cousins (who were also friends), Ian Kennedy and his wife, Izumi, of NYC, and Mie Yaginuma and her husband, Dav, of San Francisco. He also leaves behind his amazing nephews and nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, and his dog, Rosie.

Peter was a funny, expressive and articulate guy who loved his circle of people and loved to share stories about his life adventures. Every year, he counted the days until vacation in his second- favorite New York hamlet: Shelter Island. He loved meeting people and making connections there because it made him feel like he was home again. Summer weeks spent there were some of the happiest of his life, filled with boating, beaching, eating, and hanging out with an ever-expanding group of friends that he somehow managed to pull into his vacation cult. He loved music and in recent years, was able to attend many concerts with his fellow aging Deadheads, Ian and his dear friend Rob. On any given Saturday night, you could find him in his chair with his giant headphones on, listening to Saturday Night Safety Dance and live Grateful Dead shows from decades past.

Shortly after he moved to Franklin, he started his own General Contracting company, Kennedy Restorations. He loved his (often repeat) customers and especially loved the process of helping them bring their vision to life in designing their remodels, from basements to mudrooms and more. Even if you didn’t know him, we suspect you knew his big, grey truck.

Mostly, Peter cherished the life he built with his wife and their two amazing sons. Sam and Emmett are his pride and joy and the most surprising gift of his life. He loved them fiercely and would do absolutely anything for them, except share his cereal and ice cream. His greatest fear over these past few weeks was that he would miss seeing them grow into men.

In the end, Peter always felt that it was all about loving and being loved. Peter was blessed to have a wonderful group of people who loved him in spite of- and likely, because of- his uniquely stubborn personality and incredible sense of humor.

Peter’s family would like to thank Dr. Michael Constantine and Jen Desruisseaux at Dana Farber in Milford, and to the incredible team of nurses and doctors at Brigham & Women’s MED ICU for their exceptional care and compassion shown to him and to our entire family. There are too many to name, but they kept us informed and comforted during an impossible situation and we will be forever grateful to them all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Saturday October 31st, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. from 10AM-12 Noon.

Words of Remembrance will be offered at 12 noon.

Burial will take place privately.
