Town Council Heads to High School

Wednesday evening the Franklin Town Council will be meeting, not in its customary home base in the Municipal Building, but in the auditorium of Franklin High School at 218 Oak Street. How come? The main reason seems to be the formal retirement of Police Chief Thomas Lynch and the formal start of James West's role as Chief, both events expected to attract many attendees from Franklin and beyond.

In addition, the second in a series of three hearings is being held as part of the meeting regarding whether the town should keep its long-standing 'single rate' tax or shift to a split tax rate that places a higher portion of the total tax burden on commercial and industrial properties. Franklin Matters has an excellent overview of the first hearing, including links to the research report on a split tax produced by a team of FHS interns.
