Presence of MEMA Facility a Plus for Franklin

With hurricane season still underway -- and winter storms on the horizon -- Franklinites can take comfort in knowing that one of the facilities operated by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), is located right in town, within Forge Park.

According to MEMA spokesperson Chris Besse, the agency's Franklin facility includes both a logistics warehouse and office space. The logistics warehouse stores supplies as well as vehicles, trailers, & equipment that MEMA may deploy to support emergency response and recovery, he said.

The office space is used by MEMA’s logistics team and regional field staff assigned to the southeast portion of Massachusetts. The office space will also include a Regional Emergency Operations Center which will be used by regional field staff to coordinate and support communities in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket, Norfolk and Plymouth counties during emergencies.

According to Besse, over the last year, MEMA’s logistics team and partners at Mass DPH have used this warehouse and other facilities to distribute nearly 56 Million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to hospitals, first responders, nursing homes, state agencies, & others during COVID-19.
