The Franklin Senior Center played host last night to the first meeting of the town’s Veterans' Council and newly appointed Veterans Services Officer (VSO) Shannon Nisbett.

Among the groups represented in the room were the Knights of Columbus, Elks, VFW, and the American Legion. Nisbett mentioned that veterans are being encouraged to attend the Town Council meeting on Oct. 20 when it is hoped action will be taken to fund a local option for supporting disabled veterans. Councilors Robert Dellorco and Glenn Jones have been guiding that process.

Nisbett also mentioned that preparations are underway for the Veterans Day Luncheon, slated for 11-1 on Nov. 11. She said her office is awaiting guidance from the Health Department regarding how many participants will be allowed in the venue – currently planned as the Senior Center.
