They came, they saw, they recycled. The Green Team, a regional recycling company, arrived as promised Saturday morning at the Chilson Beach (Beaver Pond) parking lot – with friends like National Grid and Eversource, MassSave, Marcie Rappa Homes, Habitat for Humanity, and the Franklin DPW.

The event was primarily intended to help people recycle old electronics and usable furniture, with most items intended for Habitat for Humanity. National Grid was also collecting old dehumidifiers and providing a credit toward purchase of a new, more efficient unit.

According to Dave Rappa, National grid collected more than 100 dehumidifiers – an amazing number given that in their whole service area they normally only collect about 1600 each year. “It was a very successful event overall: we estimated over 300 cars came through,” he said. The result was two truckloads of electronics collected (one truck and one “Mi-Box” portable storage container) and approximately four truckloads of furniture for Habitat for Humanity.

Fred Cullen, owner of Green Team, was so impressed that he was talking with Bellingham State Rep. Mike Soter about organizing an event in his town and at other locations in the region.
