Vincent R. Mitchell, 95, of Franklin died September 27, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Edna (Bailey) Mitchell who died in 2014. Born in Lawrence on October 20, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Frieda (Hansche) Mitchell.

Vincent was a WWII Combat Veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and WWII Victory Medal. Master Sergeant Vincent Mitchell, U.S. Army (Ret) provided 35 years of Honorable and faithful service to our Country through the Active Army Reserve. In late January 1979 MSG Mitchell Retired from the USAR and also retired from employment with governmental research and development at Natick Labs.

Vincent then took to the road. Affectionately known as “Vin” to his wife Edna, together they purchased a motor home and enjoyed cross country touring, seeing all the beauty this free country has to offer. Together Vin and Edna spent a large portion of their retirement watching the sunsets over Little Island Pond in Pelham, NH. Upon the passing of his wife Edna, Vin would return to Franklin where his oldest daughter Marion and her husband Eddy provided the great love and affection so deserving of a WWII Veteran, a father of 7 Children, 18 Grand Children, 23 Great Grand Children and 3 Great-Great Grand Children “The Greatest Generation”.

Vincent had lived in Millis, Franklin and Pelham, NH. He was an extremely hard worker who lead by example from a young age he committed his life in-service to his people. “A simple man who respected all men and grovled to none”. He is predeceased by his wife Edna as well as his oldest son, Jack H. Mitchell, a Vietnam Combat Veteran.

MSG Vincent R. Mitchell U.S. Army (Ret) is survived by his children, Marion Syngay and her husband Eddy of Franklin, David Mitchell of Springfield, Gary Mitchell and Danielle Patterson of Douglas, Diane Kisbro of Gore Maine, Edward Mitchell and his wife Diana of Pelham, New Hampshire and Mary Cates of Uxbridge. He also cared for many foster children who will surely miss his comforting smile and simple welcome, and those who proudly called him dad.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 1 from 9 – 11 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main Street followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
