Franklin's Congressman Auchincloss Gets Another Rival

With less than a year in office and another election looming, Franklin’s Congressman, Jake Auchincloss, had already been concerned with fending off competition from his own party, including rivals that had crowded the field after the retirement of Congressman Joe Kennedy.

Now, he also has a challenger from the Republican side with the announcement by Newton resident Emily Burns that she is aiming to take the seat in 2022. To be sure, the district has tilted strongly Democrat, but Burns, a Utah native, believes issues such as Big Tech censorship, school choice, and returning the economy to “normalcy” will resonate with voters, particularly with tepid employment numbers and rising inflation.

According to her web site, she is a mother of three and has worked in both the public and private sector. An interviewer from Politico wrote that Burns identifies as Libertarian but is running as a Republican. She has reportedly committed a six-figure amount to the campaign herself.
