Amego, Inc., an organization founded by the Sangree Stokes family in 1971, works to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder along with other kinds of developmental disabilities. The organization operates schools, including one on Grove Street, and recently decided to embark on something more ambitious, permanent housing for the kinds of individuals it serves.

The result was plans for an eight-building complex originally slated for completion by the fall of 2021. Six of the buildings will be 3,200 square foot, seven-bedroom residences for 42 adults. In addition, there is a 2500, square foot community center included in the plans.

Lauring Construction, based in Worcester, is the general contractor for the project, built on a former farm site. A basketball court, walking trails, and playground are also planned.

In a voice message, John Randall, President of Amego since 2008, explained that the project is definitely on track but opening has been delayed slightly and is now targeted at late spring.
