Mary O’Neill, a local activist, thought more needed to be done, much more, to help the people of Ukraine. So, not waiting for an organization to come forward she did what comes naturally – organized an event on her own.
The result, slated for 5 PM on the Common Sunday Junen 12, and called Care for Ukraine will open with a performance by the Saint Mary’s choir, kicking off a prayer vigil. Father Brian is bringing a keyboard for accompaniment. Father Patnaude, a talented singer from Our Lady of LaSalette in Attleboro, will be a soloist.

O’Neill said local churches have been invited as well as Rabbi Alpert from Temple Etz-Chaim.

Father Borislav Kroner, who was was born in Zytomyr, central Ukraine in 1976 and has lived in the US since 1988 and is the pastor of Saint Michael’s Orthodox Church in Woonsocket, will be a featured speaker along with State Rep. Jeff Roy, who is serving as emcee.

According to O’Neill, local boy scouts will pass out Ukrainian flags. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in Saint Mary’s. She said Hillside Florist is providing decorations. Donations will be encouraged through Borislav Kroner, she said.
