Called to order just after 7 pm Tuesday by Chair Jim Bartro, the Design Review Commission looked over an application by I Have Coins at 13 Main Street, to eliminate their existing “blade” style sign and instead install three-dimensional lettering against the side of the building at 13 Main Street, approximately matching the style of other businesses in the building. Sign maker Cam Afonso represented the company.

After a few questions from the Commission, there was a unanimous vote to approve the planned signage, with Bartro calling it a win-win because it improves the look of the area.

The second hearing was slated to be for Franklin Ford which is expanding its facility. Unfortunately, when Bartro asked the applicant to share elevations (drawings), and the latter tried to do so via Zoom, the system failed, eventually forcing the applicant to request to be moved to the next meeting, June 28. The Commission agreed to the extension.

In other matters, minutes were approved from a previous, meeting, KP Sompally, a member of the Commission for a few years, asked to not have his membership renewed due to his heavy travel schedule. Bartro acquiesced but he and other members of the Commission thanked Sompally for his help and involvement. He will likely participate until his term expires in a few weeks.

The meeting also included Betsy Humes who is assessing whether she would like to be considered for membership.

Vice Char Sam Williams shared that an area business had recently replaced their sign with a new and different design but had not come before the Commission. Bartro promised to discuss the matter with the building inspector. The meeting adjourned within about half an hour.
