With endless Covid testing and now Monkeypox on the loose, it can be hard to remember that HIV is still with us.

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. First observed in 1995, this annual campaign highlights the importance of testing for HIV.

This year’s theme is “HIV Testing is Self-Care.” Indeed, knowing one’s HIV status is critical. Diagnosis is the first step toward getting needed treatment that helps you stay healthy. It can also help you make informed decisions and prevent transmitting HIV to others.

Testing is discreet and can be done in a health care setting, a lab, and even at home. Many organizations even distribute free testing kits. For additional information about testing, prevention, and to find a testing site near you, visit hiv.gov.
