Jerry Berger, 88, of Franklin, MA, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Aaron and Gertrude Berger. He was the husband of his beloved Mickey for 63 years; proud father of Ellen Mainzer (and her husband Dan) of Framingham, David Berger of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susan Berger of Bellingham; and adoring grandfather of Becky and Sarah.

Jerry graduated from Syracuse University and joined the Navy, where he proudly served as Lieutenant in Pearl Harbor and aboard the USS Boston, and was a Navy Reservist for almost 20 years. After leaving the Navy, Jerry graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy, then starting his long career as a pharmacist in Southampton, NY, and then as an owner of Neustat Pharmacy of Fishkill, NY until his retirement.

He and Mickey moved to Dennis, MA in 1996, when their first granddaughter was born, to be closer to family. While in Cape Cod, Jerry became the Director of the Dennis Disability Commission and led the development of the first playground for people with disabilities on Cape Cod.

Jerry was an avid reader of any book and watcher of all movies related to the military. He was, and continued to be, an active member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning of Cape Cod Community College, where he especially enjoyed leading and taking classes on World War II and Current Events.

Graveside services were held at Sharon Memorial Park under the direction of Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, Canton, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Franklin Fire Department, 40 West Central Street, Franklin, MA 02038 or the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Attn: Development Department, 875 N. Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
