The Design Review Commission had a lightning fast Tuesday evening virtual meeting that approved two sign packages presented by Cam Afonso of Signs by Cam on behalf of two different clients.
The first one up was Alpha Dental seeking to update two signs, essentially replacing an existing sign. Commission members confirmed that the submission met all guidance and quickly gave it unanimous approval.
The second project was a redo of the sign structure and signs locate in the traffic island at the East Central Street entrance to the Horace Mann Plaza (aka Shaws plaza).
Afonso estimated that much of the existing structure, including a wooden utility pole, date to the 1970s or 1960s.
The new design isn't a radical departure in terms of scale but does conform to the town's current design guidance. Afonso said he wasn't sure exactly when the project would start or complete since it involve some updating of utility connections and a general cleaning up of the traffic island.
He present three slight design variations, the third, with gray structural element, was preferred by the Commissioners and, on that basis, the project was approved unanimously.
