Facebook postings late Monday mentioned that patron's had discovered Shaw's grocery store was unexpectedly closed and an electrical fire was mentioned as a cause.
A visit just before 8 pm confirmed that the store was indeed closed and the parking lot largely empty. Employees were deployed at each entrance to explain the situation, and one of them offered the explanation that there had been an electrical fire in the ice cream aisle.
Peter D'Amelio, the manager on duty, said he could say nothing more than that the store was closed. He could not say when it might reopen, but a truck from a refrigeration maintenance and repair company was parked just outside.
A call to media relations at corporate headquarters in Boise, Idaho had not produced a response as of 6:30 am. Wednesday.
