According to a statement issued by the Town of Franklin on Friday, May 1, "Due to known delays throughout the week at the disposal facility, we were unable to complete Friday's Trash Collection. We have a plan in place to recover the streets that are still "on the ground" tomorrow...{Saturday)."
No word on what we behind that problem but a spokesperson for the incinerator facility stated that "scheduled outages at several regional waste-to-energy facilities have created added pressure on local disposal infrastructure. WIN Waste Innovations’ Millbury facility is operating at full capacity and working as efficiently as possible to meet the increased demand. We are prioritizing municipal customers to help protect the continuity of local waste collection services.
"WIN Waste remains a critical part of this region’s waste management infrastructure, and we are committed to supporting our communities through this period of elevated demand," the spokesperson concluded.
WIN Waste Innovations has experienced several, mostly temporary, shutdowns, operational slowdowns, and equipment issues at its facilities, particularly in Massachusetts and Virginia, often due to maintenance, equipment failure, or external power issues. However, none have happened this year. The nearest comparable facilities run by the company are in Saugus, MA and Lisbon, CT (in the Eastern part of that state.)
