Thomas Francis Geysen, 79, of Franklin died peacefully at his home on January 29th. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Leonard) Geysen to whom he had been happily married for the past 54 years. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Born in Boston, July 24, 1944, the son of the late Francis and Winifred (Campbell) Geysen, Tom grew up in Charlestown and had lived in Franklin for the past 53 years. Tom was a graduate of Boston State College.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Marybeth Geysen of Franklin, Laurie Wrobleski of Franklin, and T.J. Geysen and his wife Allie Geysen of Norwalk, Iowa.

He was the sister of Nancy Powers of Fort Pierce, Florida. He was predeceased by his sister, Winifred Gauthier, and his brother, Frank Geysen.

He had been a teacher in Franklin for 35 years and a coach for 54(Soccer, Track, Basketball & Softball). He is remembered fondly as a tough, inspiring educator who motivated and inspired his students to work hard and be better people both on and off the playing fields.

In his younger years Tom enjoyed running. He was a member of the Franklin Bolts Running Club and ran multiple marathons including the Boston Marathon twice.

He was Head Coach of the Girls Varsity soccer team which won a State Title in 2012. He received many coaching awards including being inducted into the Massachusetts State Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame and being named Coach of the Year.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Marchand, Reed Barbour, Stacia and Olivia Wrobleski, Lucy and Teddy Geysen, his great-grandson Daniel Barbour, and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 5th in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 a.m.

The burial will be private.
