Pre-Raphaelite Redux
Above, the Franklin Library has dedicated a display case in the Reading Room to an ‘explainer’ about one of the more prominent Artsy Boxes located on the corner of West Central & Union Streets. Who is the lady with the glorious hair gazing at you from the utility box? This painting, Proserpina, by Massachusetts artist, Molly Dee, is part of the Franklin Cultural District Artsy Box Project. Dee’s work captures the spirit of Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood artist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting, also shown above. The original model and muse was Jane Burden Morris, wife of Pre Raphaelite-textile artist and theorist, William Morris.
A Porchfest Deadline Extended
The Porchfest folks have announced that they are still registering bands and porches and once we complete the registration, we'll match bands with porches, and assign a time slot for the performance. We thank you in advance for your patience as we make the assignments and schedule the performances. Please note that if you have pre-arranged to have a band perform on your porch, we should already have that information and will accommodate your request. A Passing with a Franklin Connection
Violet K. Sherman, 84, of Taunton, MA, passed away on March 12, 2024, at Milford Regional Medical Center. According to her obituary she was a former long-time deli counter employee at Rico's Supermarket in Franklin.
Agency Says Saint Vincent Hospital Not Meeting Standards
As state regulators investigate nurses’ claims of unsafe conditions at Saint Vincent Hospital, a national accrediting agency has found the Worcester healthcare provider is not compliant with industry standards, according to a report in the Worcester Business Journal. The Hospital also endured a lengthy strike by nurses which ended last year.
MICCA Showcase Concert Focuses on 6th Graders This Week
MICCA is the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association and the All Town 6th Grade Band, Chorus & Orchestra will be performing on Mar 21st at 6PM at the Horace Mann Middle School
