Rhododendron Needlers Quilt Guild (RNQG) was honored to receive the Random Acts of Kindness Award at the Old Colony Habitat for Humanity “Celebration of Philanthropy Award
Ceremony” on May 8, 2024. Guild President Abby Sullivan of Westwood (standing in for Comfort Quilt Chairperson Terry Ruta of Norton) received the award along with guild members Gail Williams of Dedham, Diana Annis of Norton, Maura Woodard of Medfield and Lisa Steinka of Franklin.

Kimberly Thomas, CEO of Old Colony Habitat for Humanity, told of how she received a call from Terry offering quilts and how the new home owners were grateful to receive our gift of warmth, comfort and beauty for their newly built home. Abby was touched that as she walked past the recent homeowners from Attleboro the children expressed their gratitude for their quilt. It was a heartwarming event and award that reflects on all the comfort quilt creators in the guild.
RNQG has been in existence since 1983 and is currently 76 members strong, representing 35towns around southeastern Mass. Guild meetings are the third Wednesday of each month from September through June at 7:00pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Walpole.

The guild’s philanthropy includes donating an average of 100 comfort quilts per year through local social service agencies such as Habitat, The Home For Little Wanderers and Hospice Agencies, as well as supporting the New England Quilt Museum, providing a scholarship to a graduating senior from a high school in our member network and a donation to that senior’s public library for the purpose of purchasing materials about art.
