Franklin Man Severs Fingers in Dirt Bike Mishap

According to Bellingham Police, on Thursday July 25th at approximately 8:30 PM Bellingham Public Safety Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a recreational vehicle crash in the sandpits located off Depot Street in Bellingham. The calling party reported a dirt biker had crashed and sustained a hand injury. Bellingham Police and Fire responded to the scene and identified the victim as a 24-year-old male from Franklin.

First responding Officers Chofay and Gavin discovered that the victim had severed multiple fingers in the crash and was experiencing heavy bleeding from his hand. A tourniquet was applied to control the bleeding until paramedics were able to arrive and take over care. Officers were able to recover the lost appendages and return them to medical personnel to be brought to the hospital with the patient.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by Bellingham Police in conjunction with the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
