Dueling Fundraisers in Early September

With a state primary coming up soon, and neither incumbent Democrat State Rep. Jeff Roy nor his challenger, Republican Charles Bailey, having competition within their respective parties, the focus is already on November when they will vie for the votes of the 10th Norfolk District, encompassing all of Franklin and almost all of Medway. And both men are holding upcoming fundraising events.

Roy, once again, is heading for a familiar spot with an event slated for Tuesday, Sept. 10th from 6-8 pm at La Cantina Winery, 230 Cottage St., Franklin MA. The suggested contributions for supporters from $50 to $1000. In contrast with the similar fundraiser in 2023, when Jeff was described in promotional material as “Chairman Jeff,” this year’s event promo merely describes him as State Representative, though he does in fact retain his role on Beacon Hill as a Committee Chairman.

Bailey’s fundraiser is planned for two days later, on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Franklin Rod & Gun Club, 53 Florence Street, Franklin MA and offers suggested donations levels ranging from $50 to $250.

Debate?

Members of the Republican and Democrat Town Committees in both Medway and Franklin continue to discuss a possible debate, with Medway High School being one of the proposed venues and Franklin TV studio being another.

In addition, Franklin Observer is planning a “virtual” (in print) debate consisting entirely of questions submitted by readers. About half a dozen of those are in hand. Anyone caring to add a suggested question, please email the editor at alan.r.earls@gmail.com with DEBATE in the subject line.
