FRANKLIN: Richard Fraser

Richard Fraser, AKA “Richie”, “Poppy”, and “Dick”, of Cotuit, MA and formerly of Franklin, MA, passed away on December 26, 2024, at Cape Cod Hospital following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He is the beloved husband of Margaret “Peg” (Rourke) Fraser with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Dick was born on September 28, 1940, to late parents Edward and Grace (Burns) Fraser, in Boston, MA. He grew up in Waltham, and Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School, class of 1958. Following high school, Dick served his country in the US Coast Guard where he served 6 months active duty and was a reservist for 6 years. He also took some college classes at Wentworth Institute of Technology, in Boston. Dick went on to have a successful career with Polaroid where he was a Senior Principal Design Engineer, holding several patents during that time. He stayed with Polaroid until his retirement.

Dick was a man of faith; while living in Franklin, he was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Parish where he served as a Minister of Communion, a C.C.D Teacher, Adult advisor to CYO, Co-President of the Parish Club, and participated in the “Evenings for the Engaged” Program. After moving to Cotuit, he joined Christ the King Parish where he was active in the 50 + Club, served as both President and Publicity Board Member, and was also a member of the Barnstable Newcomers Club where he enjoyed hosting “Dine-In” for other members. When Dick was not working or practicing his faith, he enjoyed building model ships. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including kayaking, hiking, and skiing in the White Mountains. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg” Fraser, of Cotuit, MA; his children, Karen Barnes, and her husband Joseph, of Ithaca, NY, Kevin Fraser, and his wife Julie, of Billerica, MA, and Brian Fraser, and his wife Paula, of Stafford, NH; his 6 grandsons; and his 2 granddaughters. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Fraser, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee. A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 5 Job’s Fishing Rd., in Mashpee. Burial will immediately follow at Mosswood Cemetery, in Cotuit.
