Need for Speed Propels Medway's Jake Trainor

Franklin has long celebrated the successes of local race car driver, Robert Santos III, a 2004 graduate of Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School as well as his sister, Erica Santos, who is also a race car driver. (The pair are grandchildren of Bobby Santos, a former modified racer.)

Now, the Santos siblings have a new rival from up north in Medway, namely Jake Trainor, a rising-star 19-year-old who will be driving for Klatt Enterprises No. 6 in the USAC Silver Crown racing for 2025.

Trainor got his first taste of glory in the 500-lap Little 500 Sprint Car race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway in 2023. Trainor reportedly got hooked on racing as a young child and eventually convinced his father to sell his Corvette and buy him a youth-sized competitive race vehicle, a “a quarter midget.”

By the time he was 11 years old he had graduated to slightly bigger machines and was racing regularly in the North Carolina area. Today, in addition to his impressive career as a driver, Trainor is employed building race cars at the Matt Seymour Racing shop based in Marlboro, Mass.

And the season ahead includes at least one race in which the newcomer from Medway will be competing against the more established Bobby Santos from Franklin.
