In a relatively brief meeting, the Franklin Town Council heard citizen comments, including Jane Callaway, who suggested that the Council form a committee to study the future of the Parmenter School, as was previously done for the Davis Thayer School. Joel D'Errico, a former councillor, urged the Council to be mindful of the differing financial impacts of some housing developments -- some bringing in more tax revenue than the cost of services to their residents, he said.
Then, it was time for the Council to finally wrestle with whether or not to put an override vote in front of the electorate once again, as recommended by the Joint Budget SubCommittee after numerous "listening" sessions. A free flowing period of commentary followed with praise for the dedication of the committee and staff over the long months.
And, when it came to a vote, it was, unsurprisingly, unanimous in favor and, likewise, unanimous for the June 3 date. Town Clerk Nancy Danello also noted there will be early voting opportunities and that her office will be sending out a mailer with information on the $3.9 million override and on voting options.
